Big Blue Summer Kinders Day Camp
BBS Kinders Day Camp offers a perfect transition for children too big to be a Mini, but who haven’t yet experienced the hubbub of elementary school. The schedule for our Kinder campers still allows time for child-led creative play and guided investigation in the Minis Room, while also challenging campers to try new activities in a more structured format. Kinder specialty activity rotations last 45 minutes to accommodate shorter attention spans, while still allowing time for campers to apply their new knowledge and skills. Kinders receive a leveled swim lesson first thing each morning, when the pool is a little quieter and swim staff are available to work in ratios as low as 2:1 for brand new swimmers.
Our Kinder counselors receive special training to work with this age group under the close guidance of the Minis-Kinder Division Leader. School readiness skills are especially important for Kinders, so counselors are encouraged to touch mathematical concepts, such as counting, sorting, and patterning, throughout the day. Fine motor toys and art materials are available in the cabin to strengthen hand muscles for writing, and Kinders enjoy a special visit from their LIT camper “reading buddies” each week to support literacy development. And of course, Big Blue Summer Day Camp is a great place to practice the creativity, openness, dedication, and enthusiasm necessary for the classroom and beyond!
