From Gods to Athletes: Tracing the History of Olympians
$990 / Week
Every two years, the bulk of the international community comes together to celebrate great achievements in athletics. This interdisciplinary course will trace the history of the Olympic games, including their original inception in Ancient Greece and our modern reinterpretation. Students will develop their historical thinking and analysis skills by examining primary sources, both ancient and modern, and practice their research skills to develop a profile of a famous Olympian. We will engage in debates centered on issues relating to the Olympics today and learn how to interpret film as a historical source. Students will put what they learn to use and develop their team building skills by designing and participating in their own Olympics games.
