This two-week intensive poetry workshop asks students to engage in the exploration and critical reading of poetry for the purpose of using these “mentor texts” to inform their own writing. The content of the reading will include poetry representing various forms and styles. Students will write a new poem draft each day to be workshopped in the following day’s session. Towards the end of the workshop, students will enter a phase of intense revision with the goal of submitting their work to an established literary journal that accepts work from high school writers.
