Course Description

From Percy Jackson to Harry Potter to Wonder Woman, Greek and Roman mythology still permeates our lives even after two thousand years. This course will explore the primary sources (in English!) that first introduced the world to the ancient gods and goddesses. We will analyze these original myths and compare them to modern interpretations, contemplating the motives of modern authors who deviate from the original myth. Students will also have the opportunity to write their own variation of a myth, deciding how and why they want to change the original myth. By the end of this course students will feel comfortable analyzing and formulating their own interpretations of passages, as well as writing and sharing creative pieces.
